Modern service management on Jira Service Management — without the ServiceNow price tag.

Replace rigid legacy service desks with ITIL 4-aligned ITSM that runs on the same platform as your development teams — incident, change, problem, Assets/CMDB and enterprise service management, live in weeks, hosted with UK data residency.

Legacy service desk

Rigid workflows, slow changes, fragmented engineering handovers and rising platform cost.

Jira Service Management

ITIL 4-aligned service operations connected to development, assets, automation and knowledge.

Problem

If your service desk fights your teams, it's the wrong tool.

01

Renewal-cycle cost creep

Per-module licensing, mandatory maintenance uplifts and paid add-ons for capabilities that should be standard — approvals, automation, asset data.

02

A change backlog for the tool itself

When adding a request type or amending an SLA needs a certified platform developer, your ITSM tool has its own change queue.

03

A wall between IT and engineering

Incidents live in the service desk; the fix lives in the development tracker. Context is lost at every handover, and MTTR pays for it.

04

CMDB decay

Configuration data maintained by hand goes stale in months — so impact analysis and change risk assessment run on fiction.

05

Quarters before value

Big-platform implementations are scoped in phases and workstreams; agents are still working spreadsheets while the programme burns budget.

Solution — What we deliver

ITIL 4-aligned service management on Jira Service Management.

01

Core ITSM, configured to ITIL 4 practice

Incident, service request, change enablement, problem and knowledge management built as distinct request workflows with their own fields, screens, approvals and post-functions — mapped to your operating model, not a vendor template. Knowledge served from Confluence with article suggestions surfaced in the portal before a ticket is ever raised.

02

Assets & CMDB with a schema you design

JSM Assets holds configuration items as typed objects — hardware, software, services, people, locations — with attributes, dependencies and references between them. We design the object schemas, set up automated discovery and imports, and link CIs to incidents and changes so impact analysis is one click, not one meeting.

03

SLAs, queues and automation

SLA policies with business calendars, pause conditions and breach escalation; agent queues filtered by JQL; and no-code automation rules that triage, assign, approve, escalate and close. AI-powered virtual service agent handles common requests directly in the portal, Slack or Teams.

04

Change management wired into your pipeline

Change requests raised automatically from Bitbucket, GitHub or Jenkins deployments, risk-scored, routed to CAB approval only when the risk warrants it, and tracked on a shared change calendar. Low-risk standard changes auto-approve; the audit trail writes itself.

05

Incident and major incident response

Alerting, on-call schedules and escalation policies natively in JSM; major incidents spun up with conference bridge, Slack/Teams channel and stakeholder comms from a single action; post-incident reviews linked to problem records so root causes actually get worked.

06

Enterprise Service Management

The same portal, workflow and SLA model extended to HR onboarding, legal intake, facilities requests and finance approvals — one front door for employees, separate queues and permissions per team.

07

One platform with development

Escalate an incident to a linked Jira bug, watch its status from the service ticket, and notify the customer automatically when the fix ships. No integration middleware, no swivel-chair.

Why JSM over the alternatives

Atlassian is a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for IT Service Management Platforms.

Atlassian is the modern counterweight to legacy enterprise suites. Gartner's own buyer research found that most IT organisations overspend on ITSM subscriptions by purchasing functions that never get used. JSM's model is the opposite: one product, capabilities included, priced per agent.

Lower total cost of ownership

No per-module licensing, no mandatory professional-services tail, no specialist admin headcount to keep the lights on. We'll model your three-year TCO against your current renewal.

Time-to-value in weeks

A scoped JSM implementation — portal, core practices, SLAs, automation, initial Assets schema — typically goes live in weeks. The variable is data migration and integrations, which we scope upfront, not mid-flight.

Changes made by your team

Request types, workflows, automation rules and SLAs are configured through the UI. Your service desk lead makes Tuesday's change on Tuesday.

DevOps-native

JSM is the only major ITSM platform that shares a backbone with the tools your engineers already work in.

Which tier — and why we recommend Premium for ITSM

Premium is our default recommendation for production IT operations.

Standard runs a solid service desk. But the capabilities that make ITSM auditable, safe to change and enterprise-grade sit in Premium — which is why it's our default recommendation for production IT operations.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jira Service Management ITIL-compliant?

JSM supports the core ITIL 4 practices — incident, service request, change enablement, problem, knowledge and service configuration management. We configure each as a distinct workflow mapped to your process, rather than forcing a template. Atlassian's ITSM approach is recognised by Gartner, which places it in the Leaders quadrant for ITSM Platforms.

Does JSM have a real CMDB?

Yes — Assets, included in Premium and Enterprise, is a fully-featured configuration management database with custom object schemas, dependency mapping, discovery and import options, and native linking of CIs to incidents, problems and changes.

Can JSM handle change management with CAB approvals?

Yes — including risk assessment, change calendars, approval workflows, and automated change requests created directly from CI/CD deployments, so standard changes flow through without manual gatekeeping.

Can JSM handle non-IT teams?

Yes — Enterprise Service Management extends the same portal, workflow, SLA and automation model to HR, legal, facilities and finance, each with its own queues, forms and permissions.

How long does implementation take?

Most scoped implementations go live in weeks. The variables are data migration volume, Assets schema complexity and third-party integrations — all sized in the upfront assessment so there are no mid-project surprises.

Where is our data hosted?

Atlassian Cloud supports UK data residency, pinning in-scope product data to UK infrastructure, on a platform certified to ISO 27001 and SOC 2.

Is there a guaranteed uptime SLA?

Atlassian's 99.9% uptime SLA is available on Premium; Standard does not include a guaranteed uptime commitment. For a production IT service desk we recommend Premium for this reason alone, before adding Assets, audit logs and sandbox.

Can we test changes before they hit live service?

Yes, on Premium — a sandbox gives you a copy of production to validate workflow, automation and Assets changes safely before release.

Do you provide ongoing support?

Yes — administration, automation and SLA tuning, Assets schema upkeep, reporting and dashboards, and a continuous-improvement cadence after go-live. Premium also includes Atlassian's own 24×7 support behind your team.
